Recruitment is an exciting week long process where you will visit each of the 15 sorority houses on campus. During this week you will have the opportunity to talk with women from all different chapters, learn about their individual philanthropies, go on house tours, watch skits, as well as partake in special ceremonies. *Recruitment Questions*
Why Go Greek?
Every United States President since the 1830's has been Greek except five.
Two-thirds of the members of Congress and 80% of the Supreme Court are members of fraternities or sororities.
Half of all S & P 500 officers and directors are Greek. Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by members of fraternities or sororities.
A U.S. Government study shows that over 70% of all those who join a Greek organization graduate, while under 50% of all non-fraternity/sorority students graduate.
Over 85% of the student leaders on some 730 campuses are involved in the Greek community.
Greek undergraduates raise about $7 million a year for local and national charities.
Why Chi Omega?
Every year, over 5,000 undergraduate women across America join Chi Omega for fun and there are 173 Chi Omega chapters in the United States.
Chi Omega is the 2nd largest women's organization, next to the Girl Scouts of America.
Chi Omega is the largest sorority in the world with over 300,000 initiates.
How much time does a sorority take?
There is a required meeting once a week where you will exchange information on chapter events and fraternity education. Weekly chapter study sessions are a programming option for all members, in addition to events like sisterhood activities, community service projects, and social events. Remember, the more you put into the sorority, the more you will get out of it.
How long will it take to be initiated?
Every sorority does it differently. In Chi Omega, one of our main purposes is scholarship, so we wait for each woman to make grades before our initiation in January of the next semester.
Am I going to have time for a sorority with school work?
Absolutely! Sorority women have consistently higher GPAs than non-Greek students. Chi Omega offers many academic resources, as well as over a hundred friends for you to study with!
Does it cost a lot?
Joining a sorority does carry a financial commitment. Chi Omega is a non-profit organization, and we use dues to support our activities. Each semester, our chapter offers the Joan Mueller Etter Memorial Scholarship, rewarded to women who have earned a 4.0 GPA, which reimburses the woman for last semester’s dues. There are also many other scholarship opportunities that become available throughout the year.
